Day Sixty Four: The Lady on the Phone

When I researched things to do in Boise, I had set my eyes on a local non-profit I wanted to try to volunteer at. When I called to touch base with the volunteer coordinator, Sarah, I explained why my availability was limited to one day only. She immediately expressed interest in my adventures. She shared about road trips she has gone on with her siblings and we found common insights we have had from our travels. We transitioned from travels, to my very wrong misconception of Idaho's landscape, to Boise in general. She shared about growing up in Boise and the deep sense of community and family values she feels it has. The conversation flowed fairly seamlessly as we continued to return to our shared beliefs that life is about learning and developing and pursuing this is not always easy. After almost an hour of chatting, we parted ways with the final note that we would meet tomorrow when I was volunteering. Isn't it amazing that you can connect with a random stranger and within a few minutes turn them into something more? Additionally, I could pass this person on the street and be none the wiser, despite the deeper connection via the phone we shared.
