Day Sixty Eight: Go Chasing Waterfalls

Call me a sucker but I am a big fan of waterfalls. It's not that I particularly love them, they just shout "exotic" and "unique" because they are not something I have access to in my everyday life. Many of my destinations or activities on this trip have simply been because they have "Falls" in the name (Sioux Falls, Great Falls... and now: Twin Falls, ID). Yesterday I arrived in Twin Falls, home of Snake River Canyon. This impressive canyon has a paved trail on the southern rim that goes on for miles. It even leads to Shoshone Falls which is known as "Niagara of the West" with a drop of 212 ft.

Today, on my 12 mile walk on the rim trail, I was marveling at how the canyon is in the backyards of many houses as well as a few businesses. What an absolute craze it would be to look out the window in the morning and see into this massive canyon. I can't imagine getting sick of that view, I can imagine freaking out everytime I would have to mow close to the edge.

This canyon is a hidden little gem easily missed if coming in from the south. If you come in from the north (or the east or west as the main route is north of the city), you cross over the Perrine Bridge. This beautiful bridge towers over this canyon and the river far below. It is so high that people from all over come to base jump. Today on my walk, I passed this bridge twice and saw a few people preparing to jump from part of the rim trail, I also saw another who had already deployed. I did not get to see anyone make the jump. I am far too scared of heights and comfortable on solid ground to ever do that. I do wonder what their last thoughts are as they spring from the bridge. Are they reciting instructions, saying "this is going to be awesome" or perhaps giving themselves a pep talk. The world is full of people with such different interests and that just makes it more fascinating.
