Day Seven: Paved Paradise

Last night, we headed back downtown to explore their night bazaar. What a fun spectacle! So many good people watching experience: children sword fighting with foarm cylinders, a man doing a water dance in a nearby splashpad and a potentially high EDM lover chatting it up with a visiting church youth group. So many fun memories. Our short time in Fargo has already exposed us to their vast suburbia. Miles on miles of strip malls, chain stoes and wide highways. The actual "downtown" is quite small, seemingly smaller than Sioux Falls but the sprawl that has been built up around Fargo and West Fargo are snapshots of any suburban location (just with wider and flatter highways).

Honestly, it was one of the very reasons we are on this trip. Oh no, suburbia - and your miles of functional and useful stores. Stay away. Oh no, Fargo is not for us.

We were excited to check out a local spot that was suggested to us. Inside a club "Sons of Norway" (think Elks or Moose and not singles and overpriced drinks) is a hidden gem known as the "Troll Bar". Complete with pictures of trolls on the walls, this experience does not sound like an experience we can get just anywhere! There was a live band and even attendees that knew how to dance to Scandinavian music. We were particularly excited to attend this locale because we just finished (after at least 6 months) watching the TV show "Vikings". Though it was a fictional show, it was heavily based on facts, real people and beliefs about the Vikings and early Norwegians. Of course, coming to the "Sons of Norway" was a must.

After leaving the bar and safely into our vehicle dry, we got caught in a major rainstorm. It was coming down so hard, I couldn't see in front of me and we were still parked. The wind and the rain were just madness. We were going to find a local brewery but the combination of the storm and an already struggling puppy - made us start saying our prayers. We drove back to the hotel all the while wondering what cleaning the crate and our dog in the rainstorm with impending thunderstorms would be like.

Thankfully our pup was no worse for the wear. We were able to get her outside in the break between the storms. Then the thunderstorms started, she walked right back into her crate (her safe place) and said goodnight.
