Day Seven Eight: Dream, Dream, Dream

After I dropped Alex off at the airport (at 5:00am) and went back to the hotel to sleep a little more, I packed the car and hit the road. Before making the trek SE to Green River, UT (so I could see Arches National Park), I made a detour to a hidden gem west of Salt Lake City. A friend, also an adventurer, recently shared her find in SLC and I knew I had to go there. Of course after my misfortune last night, I drove the hour there praying some fluke thing didn't stop my experience.

Pulling on a dirt road for 20 minutes and then seeing signs on either side of the road warning "DO NOT ENTER" you wind your way on a peninsula next to a bay of the Great Salt Lake. At the end of the road: a lake the color of a strawberry Starburst. Surrounding the lake of course are coarse rocks of white salt, acting as sand would to an ocean. This contrast creates a beautiful image right out of fairy tales or a Dr. Seuss book. The color pink comes from the bacteria and algae that live in the water (obviously not many things can live in this body of water due to the high salt content). It was quite a magical experience that made me feel like I was in a far away land. This unique water form has made up my bitterness from yesterday - what's next: purple trees? green skies?
