Day Forty Six: Aca-scuse Me?

After checking out early so I could head over to the church for a few hours to help out - I drove west to the Montana state capital of Helena. I had begun looking into things to do yesterday and found out there is a website that has put together a very extensive list of events in the city (of all genres) in a very organized format. Genius!

I had picked out a handful of events I wanted to go to during my time in Helena that could fit my schedule and sounded interesting. After checking into my hotel and doing laundry, I headed to the "walking mall" where not just one but two of my noted events were located. The walking mall is a cute shopping and restaurant area on a pedestrian-only street. It was located at the bottom of two rather steep hills on each side (apparently known as a gulch).

The first event on my list was a performance by an all female acapella group. Simultaneously, at a local bar, was a board game night with free pizza. Reminding me of my collegiate days where "free pizza" tacked on to any club meeting would guarantee hungry freeloading college students in attendance. I, of course, am still a hungry freeloading college student at heart so I wanted in. What a great way to meet people, have fun and get out of making dinner in a hotel room!

Except the bartender had no idea what I was talking about. I showed him the post I saw online and he unfortunately said he had never heard of the event. He even went to the manager in the back to ask and reported back that the manager did not know either. He said he had worked there for a handful of months and he knows it hasn't been a thing for at least that long.

Away I went, pizzaless and now worried what other events on this "super organized event calendar" are actually outdated. Turns out, after some additional research (including calling a listed number for one of the events and a woman picked up who then passed me off to her husband) all of my activities I had made note of were non-existent or different from the post I saw, except the acapella group. So I sat down and enjoyed their "ooo"s and "aaahh"s until they packed up and moved along, all the while wondering what my days in Helena would look like now.
