Today is a big day: not only is it my 50th day on this trip, but I head to Bozeman, MT and reunite with Alex. Since he headed back east with Piper from Dickinson, ND, I have seen him one other time. I was able to fly home for a long weekend a few weeks ago, spending some quality time with him and Piper. Today, he is flying out and joining me so we can explore Bozeman and the surrounding areas. This was one of the destinations he was excited about so I made sure to plan the route to accommodate days he was able to join.
Turns out Bozeman is quite expensive. We decided not to pay the ridiculous prices of Bozeman (the cheapest of which was double any of the places I have stayed so far) and instead, stay in the town 15 minutes to the west (Belgrade) which is only slightly ridiculous in pricing. I find the ins and outs of the hotel vs. AirBnB industry captivating. The further west on this trip I have gone, the prices seem to only go up, not down. Sometimes AirBnB is remarkably cheaper than any hotel or motel in the area. This is odd because you generally get so much more with an AirBnB (kitchen, more living space, laundry access, parking right outside the door, a backyard space, etc.). Maybe it has nothing to do with being further west, but it does make me wonder why my next several locations have cost so much more on average per night.
As I have said before, I don't generally look into activities until the day or two before arriving in a new location. I do, however, book the accommodations more like a month ahead of time. I have to time the move just right with my work schedule and line up locations with reasonably priced flights for Alex or I. It can be a little hard to juggle, but then it is done and I get to enjoy the itinerary.
Alex and I have both heard Bozeman referenced many times. It seems to be the heart of America for many outdoor enthusiasts. I for one, am interested in exploring what makes it so fantastic and why oh why it is so outrageously priced.
